Dear Parents / Guardians:

We have the opportunity again this year to take our students to the Metcalfe Arena (Larry Robinson Arena) to go ice skating. This activity is in support of our Physical Education Curriculum and is considered a Life Sport. Students who do not own skates are encouraged to borrow from others as they will not be provided. Not all classes are going skating at the same time nor same dates. This should make such borrowing easier. Students who can not skate for one reason or another will accompany us to the arena with a reading book and are to remain in the sight of one of our adult supervisors at all times.

Each class will have the opportunity to go skating about 5 to 6 times.

Assistance from parents is required to supervise the students on this trip. Non skating parents are also welcome.

The students will walk to the local arena, skate for an hour and walk back afterwards. There is no charge for these skating times at the rink this year for our students.

Students are to obey the rules of a Public Skate while on these trips. Hockey, tag, racing, and horseplay of any kind will not be tolerated. Students that have difficulty following these rules will be removed from the ice.

Our students are ambassadors of our school while on special outings. We have high expectations for student conduct at all times. Should a student, for any reason, not meet the expectations prior to or during the outing, individual arrangements will be made with parents / guardians for their child.

CSA approved helmets and gloves are necessary during this trip. Skate guards are a good idea. These skates must be kept in a sturdy bag during transport and while at school if you are still in the process of getting skate guards.

Skating at the ice rink is a positive, enjoyable experience for everyone and we hope that you can join us.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school.

Sincerely,

The Staff of Metcalfe P.S.
