ECONOMICS 101
Think of the economic decisions needed in order for you to
be able to buy a can of COKE
- Forest
or other farmland, probably on a Caribbean island, had to be converted into a sugar cane plantation.
- Sugar had to be produced & shipped to Canada.
- Ships had to burn diesel fuel for the voyage.
- Petroleum (oil) had to be pumped from the ground.
- The oil had to be processed at a refinery to make diesel.
- Water had to be purified & mixed with flavourings
& sugar.
- Aluminium or steel had to be produced and rolled into a long, flat strip.
- The can had to be fabricated from the metal, painted & filled with cola.
- The cola was packaged & transported to the store where you purchased it.
- The product was advertised in magazines & newspapers & on the radio, TV, etc... for you to be aware of it.
- You /
your parents need a job to have $ to make a purchase.
- A
withdrawal of $ from a bank is needed. The government will tax your purchase.
- You had to decide if the purchase of the cola was in your best interest.
