  1. Participate fully.
  2. Take turns speaking – one person speaks at a time.
  3. Let others know that you have not finished speaking by using phrases such as:  I have one more thing to add, furthermore, in addition, etc…
  4. Wait your turn – don’t interrupt.
  5. Use supportive gestures & body language:

  6. - Maintain eye contact with the speaker
    - Nod to show you are listening.
    - Use encouraging facial expressions.
    - Don’t use inappropriate gestures.
  1. Use respectful phrases when disagreeing with another speaker.
  2. Listen carefully & attentively to other speakers.
  3. Encourage and support those around you.
  4. Avoid sarcasm & put-downs.
  5. Stay on topic.
  6. Ask questions when you don’t understand.
  7. Don’t monopolize the conversation.
