SEARCH ENGINE ASSIGNMENT

 

Use the Internet to develop a list of available Search Engines. Describe what a search engine is & how it works. Rank the search engines that you have found from best to worst. Put your list in order from best to worst. Number 1 will be the best search engine that you found and #10 will be the worst. Explain how you chose which search engines you thought were better. Excluding your list, your written explanation must be at least ½ page long.

 

Include your full name, class, date & title. If handwritten only blue or black ink may be used. Pencil is for math and drawings only! Typed work will receive extra marks. If you need extra access to the Internet outside of class time, come see me for extra lab time at lunch or after school. As well, public libraries have computers and Net access.

 

NECESSARY ITEMS:

1. LIST at least 10 search engines. Use the proper address.

Ie. http://www.google.ca = right

google = wrong

2. RANKING from best to worst that makes sense. Ie. Do NOT put Google last!

3. EXPLANATION of how you tested the search engines to determine the best to worst ordering you chose. Tell me what makes a good search engine. What criteria did base your decision on?
What factors make a good search engine?

4. DEFINITION of what a search engine is. One sentence is NOT good enough. I am looking for details here. Your definition could show how a search engine and simple website like our school’s site is different.
