3D Sculptures: Air Dry Clay
Flowerheads
- DAY 1 - Sketch 3 human heads. Ideas for sculpting
- DAY 2 - Sculpt the clay!
- DAY 3 - Paint the Gesso - Primer coat onto the head (2 coats).
- DAY 4 - Paint the sculpture with acrylic paint. (The teacher later applies two coats of spray varnish.)
- DAY 5 - Cut up the petals/leaves. Attach by skewering them with the pencil. Use an elastic under the petals to hold in place.
- DAY 6 - Write ARTISTIC REFLECTION: 1) I liked... 2) I learned... 3) I would change...
- Use an egg-sized ball of clay. Press in the eye sockets with your thumbs. Use a pencil to press in the mouth horizontally. Create a nose ridge with a pencil press vertically. The pencil is the spine. Make sure the head balances!
- Create a humanoid "flowerhead".
- You can add extra items from home. Attaching extra pieces of clay - VERY Difficult. Sculpting one piece is best! If attaching... scratch up both surfaces, press hard, use some water.
- Be ready to explain your creation - What does it represent?
- Craftmanship will be assessed: Effort, use of time, neatness, use of materials, care & respect taken.
- Carefully create a form. Proportion, Surfaces, Textures, Balance, DETAILS & Colours are important.
