Trench life

Waiting
Hungry
Cold
Wet

Waiting for something to happen
Writing to loved ones
Cleaning my gun
Talking with friends
About life back home

Hearing the Sergeant scream
Over the top!
As our team rushes forward
Seeing friends die left and right
While we continue to fight

Hoping to live another day
Waiting and waiting for the war to end
While I'm trying to survive,
Trench life.

Why?

We must remember the ones that died,
Lest we forget the ones that survived,
Only the veterans know the true meaning of war,
Just think about it... the blood and gore,
Why do we need more?

From what I think war brings sorrow,
Hoping for the war to end today or tomorrow,
From the trenches to the tanks,
Hoping the bullets that are fired are blanks,
Why do we visualize this blood bank?

We should condemn what had happened before,
Even what happened before the Second World War,
Anyway war must be done,
Most knew before it begun,
Why couldn't this be undone?

Now we know something we didn't before,
Thus we are fighting are own war,
Once we've realized this is all over,
Then again we are all sober,
Why do we leave these leftover?

My duty, my honour

I am a soldier proud as can be.
I am a soldier in the army.

I am a soldier ready to set the bullets free.
I am a soldier sitting in the trenches trying not to flee.

I am a soldier looking left to right.
I am a soldier watching others die in the fight.

I am a soldier waiting to strike.
I am a soldier praying every night.

I am a soldier having some regret.
I am a soldier.
Lest we forget.

DAD

I MISS MY FAMILY, MY SON, MY WIFE
BECAUSE THEY ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
I HEAR THE LOUD BOMBS GO OFF AT NIGHT
I JUST WANT EVERYTHING TO BE ALRIGHT

THE AFGHAN PEOPLE ARE IN DESPAIR
THE CANADIAN TROOPS ARE THERE TO REPAIR
SAD ARE THE DAYS, WHEN WE LOSE OUR TROOPS
THE LAST POST GETS PLAYED AND I TRY AND REGROUP

I HAVE BEEN SEPARATED FROM MY FAMILY FOR A WHILE
BUT VERY SOON I WILL BE BACK LIVING MY NORMAL LIFESTYLE
IT'S THE MEMORIES WITH THEM I REMEMBER
I'M WAITING TILL I COME HOME IN DECEMBER

I MISS MY FAMILY, MY SON, MY WIFE
BECAUSE THEY ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
UPON MY RETURN, I WILL SHED TEARS OF JOY
AND HOPE THAT I WILL NOT HAVE TO REDEPLOY

THE CALL OF DUTY

Men and women
Awaiting the call
The call of duty
The waitings of all

When receiving the call
We recite to the family
They take it nice
It's agreed of finally

We make it to battalions
We meet people that are nice
They make it so long
We're treated sometimes like mice

Were told to get ready
We put together are stuff
We get so anxious
We're lined up in a puff

We're taken to a big boat
We're in hours to come
The most are amazed
Not as good for the some

We're finally there
We get in are trenches
We try to survive
Most is good, but the stenches

We get into wars
We're fighting hour to hour
We see fine men die
From the never ending shower

The survivors that come back
Try to put it to rest
Weve gone through about anything
Always thinking the best

THE BATTLE OF MUD

Battle began in a Belgian town
All of the troops never backed down
Also known as the battle of mud
The fields were covered in puddles of blood.

The plan was to break through Flanders
All of the troops depending upon their commanders
Sir Arthur Currie wanted to become involved
While the troops lines slowly dissolved.

The allies fought in the trenches day after day

The soldiers did not have time to stop and play
They gobbled down rations like it was the last food on earth
In the end our grandfathers proved their worth.

There were 100 000 injured or killed
When they won their families were thrilled
They fought the battle and did not fail
That Belgian town was Passchendaele.

MERCY MISSION

We stand and watch as they sail away
Honored each year on Remembrance day
The men and women who were so brave
We pray they return as we wave.

As HMS Grafton set sail
A German sub would prevail
A rescue mission from France
Would end in disaster by chance.

A torpedo struck, then there was fire
Life boats were launched, the situation was dire
Several ships went down that day
A fateful mission at the end of May.

Out of eight hundred men and only four were dead
The ship now lied on the sea bed
The captain perished along with his crew
How so many survived, god only knew

Celebrations go on into the night
Our loved ones are home from the fight
We celebrate heroes of the past
Hoping that peach will ever last.

WE MUST REMEMBER

On the 11th of November,
We take the time to remember,
Those who fought for rights,
Those with sleepless nights,
We Must Remember.

We remember those who slept in ditches,
The poor families who required riches,
Among the battlefield of mud,
And the craters which contain puddles of blood,
We Must Remember.

In September 1939 Canadians stood up for their allies,
Imagine hearing families with their poor cries,
Imagine someone you know, going to war, never coming back,
And you'd feel as though, you're getting a heart attack,
We Must Remember.

Imagine hearing the screams, of close civilians,
And seeing the bodies, of millions,
Those millions were the bodies of the innocent,
Which every day, they would increment,
We Must Remember.

We Must Remember,
Those who wanted a future,
Those who wanted the war to end sooner,
Now this is why we stand for a moment of silence,
And why we recall how our country fought against such violence.
